Book Review: ARCHANGEL’S STORM BY NALINI SINGH

Hello Readers, welcome to my blog.

I am reviewing the book mentioned above, which is the fifth book in the Guild hunter series. I have reviewed the first four books in the Guild Hunter series in my previous blogs; please check those out as well because it will give you a broader picture of the series.

Archangel’s Storm

“I can’t give you what you want,” he repeated, some unknown thing tearing and ripping inside him at the thought of having to sever his connection to her, when it was the first time in his life he’d trusted even a part of himself to a lover.

A soft smile. “Did I make any demands, hmm?” Lifting her free hand, she ran her fingers along his jaw. “I have so much love inside me, Jason. So much. And I have never been allowed to shower it on anyone – no one has wanted it. Let me stretch the wings of my heart with you.”

He could feel his fingers tightening on her wrist, forced himself to loosen his hold. “Will it be enough to love and not be loved?” he asked, knowing it was a brutal question. “To give and never receive?”

Her smile grew impossibly more luminous. “You have no idea what you give me.”

Like the previous book in the series, this is a story of one of Raphael’s seven, the spymaster Jason and Princess Mahiya. Although we have met Jason in the previous books of the series not much was known about him until this book, so I was very excited to find out more about him. Jason’s childhood speaks of similar things that happen to some vulnerable children in our society today. Reading his account made me appreciate and thank God for my family.

This is the first time we meet Princess Mahiya, she is the daughter of Archangel Neha’s twin sister (yes, imagine my surprise that one of the Archangels has a twin who isn’t an Archangel) and Mahiya’s father is Archangel Neha’s consort. Archangel Neha is known as the Queen of snakes and poison, she lost her only child previously in the series (read Archangel’s Kiss to find out how Neha lost her child). Mahiya has to deal with a grieving aunt who hates the sight of her because she is not only a reminder of betrayal but also of the fact that she no longer has her own child.

Jason and Mahiya met when Jason is sent to Neha’s court to investigate the death of Neha’s consort. Both characters are very reserved and cautious in their personality and they both have heart breaking childhood stories. They each suffered things that were very cruel and yet survived in their individual ways with their core strength intact.

Neha’s twin is Nivriti and she had her baby taken from her, she couldn’t even get update on how her child was doing. As a mother I cannot imagine the excruciating agony of being without my baby, it is unthinkable. The moment Mahiya meets her mother for the first time is the most emotional and breathtaking scene in the entire book, it is my favourite scene.

Amid all the haunting scenes of Jason and Mahiya, we see Honor’s transformation into vampirism. Honor (Dmitri’s wife) is the first hunter to make the transformation in the series so far.

Jason and Mahiya’s story speaks so much of how harsh reality can be and the suffering that goes on in the gray areas of the world. This was a very haunting story and it really got me thinking about the world and the things that go unnoticed. My favourite feeling about a good read is when I am able to enjoy a story but still feel that I have been educated and my thoughts about the world around me has be stimulated. This book was able to do that so it gets eight out of ten marks for me.

Read the book to find out the account of Neha’s twin andNeha’s consort having a baby together.

  1. Its such as you learn my mind! You appear to understand so much about this,
such as you wrote the e book in it or something. I think that you just can do with a few percent to force the message
house a bit, however instead of that, that is great blog. An excellent read.
I’ll certainly be back. I visited various web pages except the audio quality for
audio songs present at this site is genuinely superb.
