Book Review: THE WEREWOLF QUEEN by BRANDI ELLEDGE

Hello Readers, welcome back to my blog.

This is the first book in the wheel of crowns series.

SUMMARY

I ALWAYS WISHED I HAD SUPERNATURAL POWERS.

NOW I WISH I DIDN’T.

Sadie’s a dud, a failure-the only one in high school who doesn’t have any kind of supernatural powers. Her psychic bff, Jo, knows something about Sadie’s future, but just won’t tell. And what the heck is going on when one of her teachers starts looking at her while he’s going on about powerful lost keys, portals of madness, and destinies?

THEN IT ALL STARTS.

On her 18th birthday, Sadie starts to feel weird. And when werewolves, vampires, and demons all turn up to spoil her party, the weirdness really ramps up.

Leaving her best friend, her family, and the only town she’s ever known, Sadie must find safety. But while the King of the werewolves can offer her somewhere to hide while she’s learning about her new powers, he can’t stop his psycho witch fiancée from finding new ways to try and kill her. Of course, the murderous tendencies of this psycho witch only get worse when she realises the Werewolf King is, um…attracted to Sadie.

And all that’s before Sadie sets off to try and find one of the lost keys. Before she visits hell. Before she picks up a pet ogre.

AND BEFORE SHE REALIZES JUST HOW POWERFUL SHE CAN BECOME.

But if it really is her destiny to collect one of the lost keys, will she be able to control her newfound power and help save the world and all the people in it she loves? Or will she buckle under the pressure?

She’s about to find out. A mansion surrounded by demons and full of vampires and witches intent on her destruction awaits. Oh, and that psycho-witch fiancée of the Werewolf King.

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

This book reminded me of the reason I love physical books, the material used to produce this book was exquisite: the feel of the book cover and the heaviness of the pages, oh divine. And just when you think it couldn’t get better, I am given a beautiful crown drawing at the beginning of each chapter and swirl lines above the page numbers.

I haven’t even started reading and I was already in love. The first fifty pages had me hooked, the author did not waste time she just dived right in with the story and world building at the same time and it was awesome.

Sadie is literally me in my head. I’ve come across some characters that I associated myself with because their personalities were similar to mine but Sadie is who I am in my head and want to be in reality. She is just too sassy and sarcastic for words. The story reminded me of the Kings series by Heather Killough-Walden but I loved it nonetheless just as I loved the King series.

My favourite lines were Camden’s declaration which was the stuff of dreams, totally swoon worthy.

“’When you left, I felt like I couldn’t breathe.’ His hair was a mess, and his clothes were rumpled. Did he not sleep last night? ‘After the first hour of your absence, I realized you’d already snared me. While you were gone, all I could think about was, were you safe? Fed? Happy? I can’t live the rest of my life without you.’ He got down on his knees in front of me and grabbed both of my hands.

‘I drove you away with my reluctance to let go of the past. The thought of losing you for good almost broke me. Never seeing your radiant smile or hearing your laughter again. The way you smell like vanilla and home or hearing my name roll of your tongue I can’t lose you. Sadie, you’re my mate, but more than that, I want you to be my mate because the thought of not having you in my life is unbearable. I choose you, and I want you to choose me more than anything.’”

I eagerly anticipate the rest of the series.
