ARC Review: SAVED by ANGEL PAYNE

Hello Readers, welcome back to my blog.

This is another ARC from Netgalley. The year is flying so fast, I can’t believe it is already August. Here is a cheeky Wednesday post. I think my ARCs will now be posted on Wednesdays but I already have some scheduled to go up on a Friday for next month so, the schedule will be concrete in October.

SUMMARY

He saved her life…she saved his soul.

Garrett Hawkins is the most valuable asset to his Special Forces unit, because, frankly, the guy doesn’t care if he lives or dies anymore. Since the love of his life, Sage Weston, was kidnapped and killed with her medical unit a year ago, Garrett has turned the shell of his soul into the armor of a finely tuned fighting machine. Being the first tapped for the unit’s craziest missions is just fine by him. The less time for memories and the agony they carve into his soul, the better.

It’s a plan that works, until Garrett’s world is upended one night in the jungles of Thailand. Memories become reality when the unit is called to rescue a group of kidnapped aid workers, and they discover Sage and her teammate among the retrieved women. Now that Sage is back in his arms, Garrett doesn’t know what to do. He has changed in dramatic ways, especially in the darker tastes of his passion. If he touches Sage again, he’ll want to claim her, restrain her…dominate her.

Is Sage’s love strong enough to let Garrett back in, not only as her fiancé but her Dominant? Can she trust that visiting the new shadows of his life will lead her to ecstasy and not ruin? Or can Garrett’s discipline be exactly what her soul needs to find its way back to life—and love—again?

Garrett Hawkins lost his fiancé almost two years ago and had been trying to live life without her unsuccessfully. He has dominant desires and dreams about her that he has channelled towards anger to help him cope with the loss. He is called in for a rescue mission and never expected his dead fiancée to be one of the people he rescues.

Sage Weston is Garrett’s fiancée and she has been surviving hell for almost two years when she was abducted with other ladies by human traffickers. She has been on the run, surviving as best she can before a rescue mission she never expects brings her fiancé back into her life and liberates her from the hell she has experienced.

Both Garrett and Sage have changed in their time apart because of the way they separated; they have each had to find ways of coping without each other in their time apart. These changes they both had to make to survive has brought out the darker side of both their desires; now that they are back in each other’s lives will they be able to deal with the changes in each other’s taste?

I liked this ARC so much that I purchased the other books in the series on audio, the writing style was very easy to follow and the story was very heart warming. It is a little unlike other stories in the sense that both the main protagonists are new to the BDSM scene rather than the usual plot of one character introducing another to the scene. It was nice to see both characters grow together in their new desires.

I did not like that the male protagonist’s reluctance to explore his desire more with his fiancée was because of his closed upbringing but it is realistic in the sense that, it is often such communities that Garrett grew up in that would have an issue with his diverse taste. I gave the story 4 out of 5 stars because I think the plot was well executed and the story was about personal evolution after a trauma.
