Book Review: TANGLE OF NEED by NALINI SINGH

Hello Readers, welcome back to my blog.

I recently learnt how to read 2 books at the same time after resisting the idea most of my life but it was a very interesting experience and I find myself wanting to continue the trend. Anyway, we are back to the psy-changeling world with the 11th book of the series which follows the events after the show down between Henry Scott’s forces and the changelings.

SUMMARY

Adria, wolf changeling and resilient soldier, has made a break with the past. Now comes a new territory, and a devastating new complication: Riaz, a SnowDancer lieutenant already sworn to someone else.

For Riaz, the primal attraction he feels for Adria is a staggering betrayal. For Adria, his dangerous lone-wolf appeal is beyond sexual. It consumes her. It terrifies her. It threatens to undermine everything she has built of her new life but fighting their wild compulsion toward one another proves a losing battle.

Their coming together is an inferno . . . and a melding of two wounded souls who promise each other no commitment, no ties, no bonds only pleasure. Too late, they realise that they have more to lose than they ever imagined. Drawn into a cataclysmic Psy war that may alter the fate of the world itself, they must make a decision that might just break them both.

Riaz has come back to den territory with a broken heart. He has found his mate but too late; she is happily married to another man. When Riaz returns to heal but finds himself viscerally attracted to Adria, he is not happy about it but rebuffs her harshly. Adria is Indigo’s aunt, and she has just broken away from a toxic relationship that has left her heart shredded. The last thing she needed was the harsh rejection she received from Riaz when she suggested they help scratch each other’s back while they recover from their respective heart aches.

This story is very intense mostly because the main characters are intense individuals and also the story comes after a major battle which the pack is fighting to recover from. There is a lot of healing for the pack to do and quiet changes in situations for some members of the pack. Kaleb is still quietly searching the net for one particular individual throughout the story. I have been speculating that it is a woman he met in his youth but there have been no details of the individual. Kaleb is another character that is integral to the psy-changeling world, whose story is about to change.

Most of the stories in the psy-changeling series are about the mating bond or a psychic one in case of Psys. Adria and Riaz are the first one to not have a mating bond but love each other just as deeply. I love that this possibility was explored by this story because it made the series more diverse as there are different forms and intensity of love which doesn’t make them any less impactful.

The extent that pure Psy are willing to go is dreadful, they killed a lot of their own race in an effort to get their message across which was just heartbreaking for the defenceless people caught in the storm. This makes the length that the changeling groups will go to protect the people of the other races very impressive.

Kaleb finds the person he is looking for at long last at the end of the story. The search for this person which we have no name or description of has spanned the entire series, it started even before Kaleb became a Councillor and I can’t wait to find out who this mysterious person is.
