SYNOPSIS
Kissen kills gods for a living, and she enjoys it. That is until she finds a god she cannot kill: Skediceth, god of white lies, who is connected to a little noble girl on the run.
Elogast fought in the god war, and helped purge the city of a thousand shrines before laying down his sword. A mysterious request from the King sends him racing back to the city he destroyed.
On the way he meets a godkiller, a little girl and a littler god, who cannot find out about his quest.
Review
We read from 3 POVs. In a kingdom that was once terrorised by gods that came in all shapes and sizes, Kissen is a godkiller. She makes a living killing gods because their existence has been banned by the current king who had to rescue his kingdom from the brink of extension after a war against gods. Kissen lost her family and her leg during this terrible time and has grown up to fight against the gods that caused the destruction of her loved ones. We also have Inara, who has a god attached to her. She loses her family the same way Kissen did and is only alive because of Kissen. Inara wants to preserve the life of her god and in order to do that, she needs Kissen’s help. Kissen is only helping so she can separate Inara from her god and kill it. The third POV is Elogast’s. Once the King’s right hand man, now he is a baker. The King is dying and Elogast is looking for a way to keep him alive. All roads lead to Blenraden, the city the old gods waged war in. What will each of them find there?
I gave this 4 out 5 stars. This was a beautiful and perilous journey with a founding family theme. Love from unexpected places, betrayals from unexpected people and a lesson to appreciate the things you have and the people around you. I believe there might be another book coming, I am not sure if this will remain a standalone but it would be delightful either way.
